Welcome to the Club’s Welfare and Safeguarding team.
LVPC has a dedicated Safeguarding and Welfare team. For any concerns or simply a conversation, we’re happy to be the Club’s first point of contact. You can talk to the team either at Club Night or by using the contact details mentioned below.
Members of the LVPC Welfare Team are Irina Medunyak (Welfare Officer), Karen da Silva (Assistant Welfare Officer), Sophie Chandan (Youth Rep) and Ciaran Edwards (Slalom Lead).
Irina is a dedicated slalom and recreational whitewater paddler. She currently serves as a slalom coach, teaching the basics to adult paddlers during club nights. With several years of experience as a Deputy Welfare Officer, Irina has volunteered to take on the role of Welfare Officer during her maternity leave.
Her background includes valuable experience working with both children and adults at various GLL centres, such as Lee Valley Whitewater and London Aquatics. This exposure has equipped her with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all paddlers.

Sophie is an avid freestyle paddler, who started off paddling around London youth clubs before joining LVPC this year. She represented GB at the 2024 European Freestyle Championships in Graz, and plays canoe polo on the side; as well as working at a few centres around London, so she has lots of experience working with young people. Sophie’s role at the Club is Youth Representative, ensuring the best interests of the Club’s young people are represented on the General Committee.

Ciaran is an active slalom paddler with over 20 years paddling experience including representing GB at Junior, U23 and Senior level. Ciaran’s working role includes being team leader for Junior GB Team International trips and taking responsibility for welfare and safeguarding on these trips. He’s also a trained mental health first aider.
Ciaran’s role at the Club is Slalom Lead which includes oversight of all slalom activity and being responsible for the development of the Club as a Talent Partner. Ciaran is an active coach who holds the Safeguarding and Protecting Children Training and DBS check.
